Klaus Toivola goes back to school after spending time in prison. He stole some money from Linnanmäki amusement park.He has some hard time at school. The main reason for that is Mr. Kahari, who the pupils call Pukinparta. He makes sure his past won't be forgotten.A girl called Anja still has some feelings for him. Then a teacher called Elsa Tuovi starts having some feelings for him.Jälkeen syntiinlankeemuksen (1953) is directed by Edvin Laine. It's based on the novel Purppuralaahus (1948) by Arvi Kivimaa. The novel depicted the time after 1918, so something was changed for the movie. This movie won a Jussi award from script (Juha Nevalainen) and music (Harry Bergström).Martti Katajisto does a great male lead as the troubled Klaus.Helena Vinkka (b. 1925) is a Finnish opera singer who got into movie business for a short while. This was her first one and she did three more. The most famous movie role she did was Veera in Tuntematon sotilas (1955), where she sang Kalinka in a memorable way.She is terrific as Elsa.Eila Peitsalo is wonderful as Anja.Director Laine is marvelous as "Pukinparta".He's sort of the villain of this movie, but there are some likable qualities in the man, qualities that make you like him.He has a parrot he adores, and then that parrot dies and the poor man is heartbroken.Matti Aulos is great as Faktori Ranta.Kaarlo Halttunen is terrific as Harjula, who jokes about his mother-in-law.Eino Kaipainen gives a very good portrayal as one of the teachers. And so does Marjatta Kallio as one of the pupils.Matti Ranin is terrific as the rebellious pupil Aarne.Aarne Laine plays the headmaster.Pentti Irjala is a worker at Linnanmäki.Anton Soini is a teacher.Heimo Lepistö and Kullervo Kalske are policemen.Veikko Linna is a man at Kerava's station. Also Pentti Siimes and Marita Nordberg can be seen sitting in the class. And so can Veijo Pasanen.Heikki Savolainen is the janitor.Tommi Rinne and Vili Auvinen have minor roles in the movie. This movie gives a great portrayal of the Finnish school life in the 50's.The ending is really impressive.Klaus runs in the school hall while children sing "Jaakko kulta", and then he tries to kill himself.A movie worth watching.
