  • An ex-girlfriend drops by Charley's and proposes to renew their relationship but is turned down.

  • Several teenage boys start trouble at a country club prom dance and initiate a brawl which is broken up by police. A group of boys end up in jail with their parents bailing them out. Charley's son is seen with blood on his forehead.

  • Charlie is a faithful smoker even though he's told by the doctor to stop because of his health. His son is seen holding a pipe. Even the doctor is seen smoking. Liquor is seen being consumed in shots and in drink glasses. One man in particular seems like an alcoholic addict.

  • The whole film seems very gloomy, dark and full of conflict. A man attempts suicide in the restroom with a loaded gun. A croupier plays with a pair of loaded dice. A former rival threatens to break the casino bank.
