Rather conventional both in outline and in spirit

A farm country melodrama, rather conventional both in outline and in spirit, but in part well acted. It holds attention closely and gives well sustained dramatic suspense, because it is well constructed. A shiftless farmer steals from his landlord and is found out. The daughter has to marry this man to save her father from being sent to prison. After the wedding her sweetheart, in despair, leaves for the city, where he prospers and, later, is able to rescue the poor abused wife, whose husband is accidentally but conveniently killed. The most interesting figure is the shiftless old father, played by George Middleton, Alice Joyce is the daughter; Stewart Holmes, the landlord; Tom Moore, the sweetheart, and Hazel Mason, the girl of the village who is left waiting at the depot by the landlord's death. - The Moving Picture World, December 21, 1912
