Monica is a Mexican girl from the barrio. Humble and sweet, she has ambitions for something better, but she always sets aside her feelings and dreams to help others. She is a lame but professional clown with big-girl syndrome; her sense of humor is terrible and she thinks the only reason people laugh at her is because she is overweight. Her older brother Omar has always gotten into trouble until finally landing in jail for theft; now a free man, he returns with his girlfriend and their two daughters to start a new life. Monica's best friend Lily is a prostitute and her lifestyle leads her into rape and unwanted pregnancy. Monica's boyfriend--well actually she doesn't have a boyfriend but she would like him to be--Mario is a used car salesman and with his good looks cheats women for their money. This ensemble of characters is at the crossroads of life needing to choose new paths in this fun and dramatic dark comedy.
