First time I've been compelled to write a review..
It was OK.. I was a huge fan of the original back in the day (although I've developed a significant dislike for Charlie Hunams voice over the years).. This film was everything I expected from a sequel.. Mediocrity.. And teenagers saving the world when adults could not.. Meh..
I have a number of gripes, however, I'd like to zero in on the "big fight" in Tokyo.. John Boyega and Scott Eastwood are pulling buildings into a Kaiju.. How do they know there's no one in them? They're destroying buildings and potentially killing people left, right and centre.. This did also cross my mind in the original, thinking that the Jagers were causing just as much damage to cities as the Kaiju but it was less blatant I guess? I realise this is a film and one should just "go with it" but like I say I was able to do this with the first one but this one was.. Challenging..
There were parts of this film I liked! I love giant robots and the expansion of this universe was really kool! I like that original cast members were in it and the story wasn't terrible.. But they did target this at a much younger audience which I think is a mistake... Like with the recent Power Rangers reboot they need to actually think about who's going to relate to these types of movies.. Guarantee you it's not teenagers..
I don't like John Boyega as an actor.. He was alright in this tbf and I saw flashes of Idris Ella's character which was good..
