Magnum, P.I.: Ms. Jones (1985)
Season 5, Episode 19

The Devil Ms Jones
14 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Actually, this time, although Ms Jones starts off by torturing Magnum in exactly the same way she has in two previous episodes, she turns out to be quite the angel. And it was brilliant.

The plot is so simple that, for once, I'll bother to recount it. Madeline's (sort of) husband, Ray, has once again chosen to call her to say he's left her at the precise moment she's about to hand Thomas the information he's queued for hours to get. (I find this gag funnier every time they do it, for Thomas' reaction.) She hires Thomas to find him and we get into a world of AI, military espionage... and strippers!

I only write reviews for episodes I particularly like or dislike, and I've written reviews for the past two because I hated them. So I'm really happy that this has turned out to be one I love. I hate criticising this show. Some random thoughts:

Cute, sweet (well, mostly) Madeline is actually a ninja warrior. And a supercomputer.

Little Allison's mother should probably keep her locked up for the safety of men everywhere.

Does Colonel Greene tour modelling agencies to recruit his female lieutenants?

Sam Anderson definitely got better looking as he aged.

Caligula was comfortably beating even that Viking in the competition to be the scrawniest, campest male stripper ever seen. It's a real shame that the toxic masculinity of the fighting men destroyed his dream.

I'm devastated to see that this was Madeline's last appearance.
