Beautiful low-budget film from New Zealand about life in a brutal post-apocalyptic dystopian reality. Poetic and dramatic the barely bichromatic photography brings back an expressionist aura to a dragging desolate existence. Little is known and disclosed in this implacably contained world and the musical score is just as minimalist and mysterious. Stylishly drab costumes dress with care human nature's conflicting crisscrossing contradictions-extraordinarily so in direful conditions where the struggle for survival can leave one either heartless or nakedly vulnerable or both. Is this what the future of humanity looks like? EXISTENCE like EXISTENCE doesn't seem too far off.
