One Year Off (2023)
4/10
But it wasn't a comedy...
23 May 2023
I believed that I was in for a comedy when I sat down to watch the 2023 movie "One Year Off", as it was labeled as a comedy. And imagine my surprise when I sat through 100 minutes of no laughs or funny situations.

The storyline in "One Year Off" was not bad, and writer Stewart Thomson did put together something nice enough. However, I was just expecting it to be a comedy, so I had other expectations than what Stewart Thomson actually delivered. And that sort of made it an askewed movie for me to sit through, though I managed to watch the entire movie, but I was only mildly entertained.

The acting performances in "One Year Off" was okay. And I have to say that I mostly sat down to watch the movie because I saw Jeff Fahey was starring in a comedy. There were some other familiar faces on the cast list, such as Antonio Fargas and Chad Michael Collins.

Watchable for what it was, director Philippe Martinez delivered a 'comedy' that failed to tickle my funny bone. But I am sure that there is an audience out there for a movie such as this, because the storyline is okay and the acting is good. I just had my expectations a whole other place than where director Philippe Martinez was going.

My rating of "One Year Off" lands on a four out of ten stars.
