Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre
10 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The McGuffin is a stolen AI device that can break into any security system in the world.

The device has been stolen by Ukrainian gangsters. Billionaire arms dealer Greg Simmonds (Hugh Grant) is arranging the sale of the device with bids of billions expected.

The British government has enlisted the help of freelance mercenary Orson Fortune (Jason Statham) and his team to retrieve it. His plan includes to blackmail Hollywood actor Danny Francesco (Josh Hartnett) to distract Simmonds.

Only for a rival British contractor Mike (Peter Ferdinando) is also after the device.

Director Guy Ritchie wants to make his own version of James Bond/Mission Impossible. It lacks the elan of those movies and is also too patchy.

Orson is too smug and never really in danger. There are too many scenes of people hacking into computers when there should be thrills and spills.

Hartnett, Grant and Aubrey Plaza manage to acquit themselves well.
