Sluggish, dull, gratuitous Spike Lee 'vampire' remake with no apparent point
6 April 2023
Those missing iconic writer / director Spike Lee and/or impatient for vampire flick "Renfield" may try Lee's own 2014 'vampire' film "Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus" (remaking 1970's "Ganja & Hess")- but should NOT - as it is DIRE. When aristocratic Martha's Vineyard artefact collector Stephen Tyrone Williams is stabbed with an ancient tribal knife he develops an addiction to drinking blood - inconvenient (or is it?) as he woos bitchy Zaraah Abrahams. Lee's dialogue is sluggish dull, performances are uniformly dreadful (except Rami Malek in minor but stylish support), and it's gratuitously gory & sexual with no apparent plot point. An excrutiatingly bizarre turd. Flush it.
