Isn't this what we all hope for when blindly going into an unknown and vaguely plotted indie-movie? Namely that it rapidly reveals itself as a surprisingly original, fresh, and heartwarming experience? "Safety Not Guaranteed" is the kind of film you seek out because Sci-Fi stories about time-travelling are always enticing, and because the concept of someone seeking a companion via a bizarre newspaper ad makes everyone curious, but in this particular case you get so much more than you were anticipating! "Safety Not Guaranteed" is compelling without being unnecessarily complex, the script is funny without becoming absurd or vulgar, the characters are authentic and likeable despite initially coming across as stereotypes, and - most importantly - it never has any pretention. A fabulous film, warmly advised to all audiences between 9-99.
