Gang-tae is working as a male nurse in okay psychiatric hospital and also takes care of his elder brother sang-tae who has autism. Ko-moon-yeung is a psycho author who falls in love with gang-tae. She is behind gang-tae but gang-tae rejects all her advances. Its later revealed that gang-tae and ko-moon-yeung were in love since childhood but got seperated. Gang-tae still loves her but is burdened with the responsibility of taking care of sang-tae. Rest of the show is whether gang-tae and ko-moon-yeung unite or not?
The show has a very fresh story especially through the character of ko-moon-yeung who is eccentric and also has elements of witchcraft. There also runs a suspension regarding her parents. Gang-tae also has a character arc. He is shown initially as the caring brother but deep down he desires a lot to live like a normal man. There are lots of emotional moments and one scene which made me moist-eyed was when sang-tae says to gang-tae that their mom used to order one food item for gang-tae. Till that time gang-tae was sad that his mom doesn't love him and gave him birth just to protect his elder brother. Then gang-tae weeps knowing his mother's love. The chemistry between gang-tae and ko-moon-yeung develop really well and it turns a delight to see them onscreen, such that i wished them not to get seperated but since its a Korean show nothing can be predicted. The second last episode had elements of a thriller with a twist regarding ko-moon-yeung's mother but soon that element fades out and gets back to the drama. The finale is fully filled with feel-good and positive moments with everything getting a satisfactory closure and in the end what sang-tae does for gang-tae shows him how mature he is ending the show in an emotional note.
The two issues, i had with the show is its length. Each episode are 75 minutes long. Also there are various subplots like the hospital director, the nurse who has a crush on gang-tae, the publisher of ko-moon-yeung and his assistant, gang-tae's best friend, the nurse mother whose house gang-tae and sang-tae live as tenants, love story between the publisher and nurse etc, stories of various patients there and ko-moon-yeung's parents track. Its not that i didn't like them but i was more interested in gang-tae and ko-moon-yeung love story more and these subplots i was not much bothered.
On the whole, its okay not to be okay would have been my favorite korean romantic drama series if its length and various subplots were reduced.
