I know nothing about the people who made this movie but they strike me as a bunch of nerdy friends who:
* Are so comfortable with each other that they are able to make uncomfortable/puerile jokes targeting each other on film.
* Wanted to make a movie that showcases their geekdoms (board games, horror tropes).
That's all a guess on my part though.
Anyway, this isn't a high production value thriller but if you have ever been in a long-running tabletop role playing or board gaming group, this is the movie you might have made with your friends (assuming that your group was sufficiently nerdy, diverse, and potty-humored).
Movie is fine.
