Ved is the first film I watched in theater in 2023 and to be honest, I only watched it because of Salman Khan's special appearance in the end credits song. As I feared, Ved reminded me of why I disliked the Telugu original in the first place. Not that both are any bad films, just that the pure soul character of Genelia (Samantha in Majili) simply triggers. It glorified loving blindly and presented it as a healthy relationship. I had a problem with it before and this being a loyal remake, sticks to it proudly.
But to speak of positives, the comedy here is far more spontaneous and effective, with the friend character in the first half and Ashok Saraf in the second half. Being a non-Marathi guy, somehow I felt Genelia's Marathi to be not so fluent yet she performed well in the climax. Second half pace drops considerably compared to first half. Riteish Deshmukh scores as a director even though he chose to play safe with the remake.
