Life at sea not a place for cats.

Feline fans beware. Two cats finds that a pirate life is not for them in brutal ways in this otherwise very sweet movie about a young man (Joseph Bottoms) trying to find himself by sailing around the world. One of the cats is a sweet fluffy kittens do is just absolutely adorable and causes no trouble, and the other one is a nasty tempered tabby whom Bottoms find him taking care of the younger girlfriend Deborah Raffin but can't stand....and vice versa. The presentation of the fluffy white chubby faced beauty in the opening scene is adorable, but obviously not really a good companion on a small boat on the ocean, and definitely not a good idea for a present for a going away party for this situation.

Other than that, this is an often sweet view of life on the sea, with Bottoms by himself much of the time, and a very interesting character to watch go through what he goes through. This was produced by Gregory Peck who obviously believed greatly in the story, and while the film has some very choppy bits of editing for plot development and consistency, and it's still enjoyable and gripping in spite of those errors in production judgment. A few other familiar faces show up in smaller parts along the way, with Raffin the most important to the story as a sweet teen girl who prays that Bottoms will make it back alive, let alone reach his goal. A gorgeous musical score aides the beautiful photography in creating a memorable family film that in spite of the cat situation is a modern classic.
