Good basic prison pic. Action and character are well integrated with no dead spots. Don't know director Henry Levin's other work, except for "Where The Boys Are" and "Journey To The Center Of The Earth", but based on this one I'll try to see more. Thankfully the dialogue is generally terse and un soap boxy, as befits a B picture like this, and the cinematography is a cut above the B picture standard maybe because it's by one of the best Hollywood DPs, Burnett Guffey, of "Bonnie/Clyde" fame. But the best part of this film for me was the acting, especially from co stars like Carl Benton Reid, Millard Mitchell and Frank Faylen, who are not usually given a chance to shine, as well as from co stars who are like Dorothy Malone and Will Geer. Give it a B.
