One of my Richard Fleisher's favourites
11 February 2022
Though not his best film nor the best western ever, I have always been in love with this seventies western, which I, at first sight, loved and confounded with CULPEPPER 'S CATTLE COMPANY, because of Gary Grimes presence and of course the atmosphere and directing manner. Grimes, too soon disappeared from the screens, was really gifted and moving actor, at least that's the way I saw him. In this made in Spain western, as many others of this period, we watch some kind of clash between generations topic, where Lee Marvin is excellent. It is violent, gloomy, tragic as many seventies western we could see. Just before the eighties and nineties new wave, that will be so different. What a good character depiction and so smooth story telling, as also was CULPEPPER S CATTLE COMPANY. Yes, I definitely crave for this film, as some other Fleisher's ones of the seventies: NEW CENTURIONS, THE DON IS DEAD, THE LAST RUN, MANDINGO, SOYLENT GREEN....
