This could've been a significantly better movie if it stuck with the sports theme, and sprinkled in the young romance and angst. It had potential.
Instead, it wallows in the romantic triangles and travails. It's a good half hour longer than it should be. It's also more than a tad cliched.
On the other hand, it's pretty well acted all the way around, and most of the folks are easy to look at as well as personable.
What really got me about this movie was the ending, or actually the penultimate event. It runs against the grain, and quite frankly, seemed completely unnecessary.
If you've seen nothing of real life, it'll be a tear jerker. If you seen this kind of stuff, you'll wonder what the heck it's doing in this movie that was moving along to a predictable, but satisfying ending.
Note to writers. Shocking your audience, or subverting expectations isn't the same as pleasing them. Satisfying your artistic urges as the expense of viewers enjoying themselves is petty.
