Evil Laugh (1986)
1/10
Abysmal Goofy Comedy

Warning: Spoilers
I remember Evil Laugh falling under the same category as Evil Spawn when I was a kid.

I fell for Evil Spawn three times back in the late 80's when hiring it in the video store. The cover fascinated me but the movie was lousy. I always grabbed it hoping the movie would improve - it didn't. If I recall Evil Laugh was a bit of a letdown too, but the old school VHS cover was awesome.

The quality of this DVD is quite poor so I can only assume that Bill Gates; Biff Tannen, and a Freddy's Dead reject delivers some groceries to the Manson murder house minus some liver. Unimpressed, our killer strikes and kills Biff Tannen first then removes his liver to some zainy "alert" warning music while laughing like a hyena. (Wait till you hear the idiotic noises made when Ivan Drago puts an axe through his own skull.)

Is this a comedy?

Music by David Shapiro - didn't he do Seinfeld?

Ivan Drago, and two cohorts, breakdown and urinate on some sunbathers as the comedy roles on. Then two airheads also breakdown and crack funnies, while another couple, in a Mercedes Benz, breakdown as well due to vomiting?

The cast gather at the Manson murder house. They're all annoying and unlikable.

(I believe we meet the killer at the start here? She's the mature lady in the car who's annoyed whilst leaving.) They keep making references to other horror movies. Which is a cheap move below the belt in my books.

Ivan Drago cracks out a boombox and everyone starts dancing - it's embarrassing.

The evil laugh ain't evil at all, it's goofy.

See, the duplicity of this movie does the video cover no justice. I'm really annoyed that skeleton on the cover isn't in the movie.

Barbie reveals her boobs and says, "See anything you like?" Gee, what was that line from again? Then some clown makes Friday the 13th noises. Why are you borrowing from movies that came before you? Be your own entity, not someone else's.

I'm looking at the video cover right now and there's a mean ass skeleton in a hood holding a blade, it's awesome, then I divert my attention back to the TV screen and what do you get? Goofy actors trying to be comedians and horrendously written lines I'm paying no attention to.

Wow, there's 23 more painful minutes of this to go. Big payoff at the end - there's some Friday the 13th/Scream reveal, (Like I care.) The justification for killing total strangers in this movie was a mother's grudge that baby sitters weren't paying attention to her son, Martin, drowning in a duck pond, or something? Talk about paperthin.

If you see this movie for sale online pay no more than a Canadian Loon for it.

What a waste of time!

You know what? I'll give Evil Laugh 10/10 for the old school VHS cover only. But as for the movie itself? One, I guess. For what? Who knows? It's better than After Last Season.
