Not really a fantasy film, LIED VOM LEBEN takes a surrealistic approach to sound cinema that focuses on the miracle of birth as metaphor (her rebirth into a new life), reality (the birth of her child), and even cautionary warning (in various ways here, both subtle and ham-fisted).. the 53-minute abridged version is still overindulgent, and I don't believe the missing footage would hold any clue to greatness.
