"Jubilo, Jr." is the most unusual silent Our Gang shorts I have seen. This is because the story is told through flashbacks....and stars, of all people, Will Rogers! And, there's even an appearance at the end by Charley Chase!!
When the story begins, Jubilo (Rogers) is dressed like a hobo and he's talking to some other hobos. He tells them a story about long ago. In this story, Jubilo is played by Mickey Daniels. It seems his mother is having a birthday and her nasty husband hasn't bought her anything! She's naturally disappointed and Jubilo is determined to earn some money to buy her a lovely hat. But again and again, everything he does to earn money either doesn't work OR costs him money! What's next?
This is an Our Gang film that really is NOT funny nor really is intended to be. Instead, it's pure nostalgia and sweetness. See the film...you'll see what I mean.
