Plays it too safe
2 July 2021
Tom and Jerry is well-beloved for its over-the-top violence and slapstick, and it'd be nothing without that trademark humor. Despite this, moral guardians have pushed the series to be less violent. As such, recent Tom and Jerry media has been quite...safe.

This show is no exception. It's made to promote the 2021 movie and is a continuation of the Tom and Jerry Show from 2014. Both shows have/had a lot of potential, and the directors and staff are talented, but the problem is limited budget. I know that it has a limited budget because of WB's buffoonery, so they can't really improve it.

As I said, the show is safe. The slapstick is still there, but it doesn't hit as hard as it could have. Big WB cartoon franchises like this and Scooby-Doo are kept on a pretty tight leash, and while the experimentation isn't bad, their recent media ends up being quite dull and bland, and the hardships behind the scenes don't help matters.

Of course kids will love this, and they're free to - every single generation loves Tom and Jerry and that's the beauty of it. But as for me, I'll hold out hope that Pete Browngardt will make new Tom and Jerry shorts like he did for Looney Tunes.
