SIGN OF THE GLADIATOR is an early peplum with a stand-out performance from Anita Ekberg as exotic queen Xenobia, whose tribe is consumed by Rome and who ends up striking up an unlikely romance with a Roman general in the meantime. It's a nice looking piece, even if there are no gladiators in it at all, with good costumes and sets, although a dearth of action compared to the usual muscleman epics. Ekberg has never looked better than here.
