Small and Beautiful.
15 May 2021
Its a small film with a very low budget and unknown faces. Don't let that fool you, it is a beautiful film. Acting is top notch, even though most of them are newcomers/amateurs. Film is about how people from a small village make a movie with a lost and found digital camera. For a country that is obsessed with movies, it is piece of cake. Auto rickshaw driver becomes producer cum director, wedding photographer becomes cinematographer, barber becomes hero, vegetable vendor becomes heroine, kid becomes script supervisor. Scenes where they try to find heroine for the movie are hilarious. And the heroine selling vegetables in shot gaps is too funny. Initially, villagers are reluctant about this movie making, but later on they all pitch in. I appreciate the director for avoiding the class divide that we find in many village based movies. Scenes between Veerababu and his wife are nicely done. Especially, the scene where she goes to work in fields to support her husband financially. They say a lot to each other without actually saying anything. Main plot point is unanswered, How did the bag get into auto rickshaw?
