About the title, there isn't much of a connection with Miami, but since the Miami Vice TV show was popular at the time, they probably thought it would get more people to see the movie. I like this movie for it's non-stop cheese and the fact that a lot of the movie was filmed on and around of the campus of UCF, as well as multiple places in downtown Orlando and Winter Park. This is a classic cheesy movie that will live on forever.
