Dedh Ishqiya review :

Khalujaan and Babban return as the 'dilwale' chors out for a bigger booty in this sequel which didnt work commercially but wasn't too bad for a one time watch.

The ever gorgeous Madhuri Dixit plays Begum Para, a queen of a lesser known riyasat, who holds a swayamvar of sorts where poetry is the main criteria for choosing the groom. Khalu enters the mushaaira to compete with the local MLA (Vijay Raaz, fantastic) who aspires to be the next Nawab. Babban joins in as Khalujaan's butler and falls for Para's saucy maid Muniya (Huma).

Unlike the first part which was more rustic in nature, Dedh Ishqiya is all about shero shaayari and nawaabi tehzeeb even though its basic theme of double cross and twisty finale remain the same. In fact, the climactic revelation may raise some eyebrows though it is only implied and not explicitly shown.

Director Abhishek Chaubey certainly knows how to carry forward his key characters and Naseer and Arshad are absolutely first rate just like the first part. Madhuri is just amazing as Begum Para. She looks radiant like a queen, no doubt. Her camaraderie with Huma is also the film's strong point. I wish Abhishek now takes up Begum Para-Muniya story in a prequel or sequel. Either is welcome!!
