With Paul Merton gaining his own show on Channel 4 on the back of his success on 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?', Josie Lawrence was given the same treatment. 'Josie' was a mixture of stand-up, sketch and musical comedy, not unlike the earlier BBC show 'Victoria Wood: As Seen On TV'. Sadly, Josie's show did not make the figures and was axed after only one series. Which is a pity as while the show was nothing wholly outstanding, at its best it was amusing and very well performed.

Among the best sketches were 'Lucky, Lucky, Lucky', which had the gorgeous Josie as the Kylie Minogue inspired Trudi Kellogg, a talentless Australian actress whose credits included 'Hoppy The Bush Kangaroo', 'Mateys' and 'Prisoner Writers Block H' ( all of which were obvious spoofs of 'Skippy The Bush Kangaroo', 'Neighbours' and 'Prisoner Of Cell Block H' ), 'There's Me & You' saw a young couple's romantic reminiscing escalating into a violent argument. Best of all was 'Tired & Emotional', a musical item all about a young woman's shattered romance. Each episode ended with Josie indulging in a spot of improv.

Sadly, the show's potential was never fully realised. It deserved a second season to get it going. Josie's next comedy show came in the shape of 'Outside Edge' for ITV.
