Feluda Pherot (2020)

What a pleasant surprise!

Srijit Mukherji's "Feluda Returns" is a pleasant retelling of Bengal's one of highly regarded detective novel. Whilst heedfully safeguarding its inbred nuances, Mr. Mukherji aptly conferrs his intrinsic creativity here. And that's quite an achievement in my book.

Originally penned by the great 'Satyajit Ray', 'Feluda' has been frequently recounted through numerous ingenious minds over the years. Lately we have been witnessing a barrage of adaptations from 'Sandip Ray'; the son of Mr. Satyajit Ray. As a matter of fact, I wasn't really a fan; yet I was persistent simply because the First-hand Novellas have always been the dearest to my heart.

This time the things have taken a turn for the better. A dicey responsibility came upon Srijit Mukherji's shoulders. With his intuitive potency as a director, he triumphantly executed a fascinating ride. In the meantime, sustaining our beloved 'Feluda' semblance!

Tota Roy Chowdhury as Pradosh Chandra Mitra aka Feluda is an inviting presence. A similar dictum goes for Anirban Chakrabarti as Lalmohan Ganguly aka Jatayu. He was the professed comedic relief here and he played his part with enough proficiency! Kalpan Mitra as Topshe didn't really work though. And that being my importunate gripe, without a doubt.

As far as its technicalities go, there is nothing to complain about! Srijit's habitual expertise is evident in his direction. A congruous provision comprising of retro clothing, sets and cars. Adequately complimenting the 70's era where this particular story is set in. Albeit most of the accolades must go to the Soundscore. What an ebullient composition by Joy Sarkar!

To conclude, this has been a compelling journey which I thoroughly relished. Could be a not so crowd-pleasing opinion, but I revere this interpretation of 'Feluda' more than any of its contemporary variants.
