Jessica Chastain is a painter from New York, who - as a widow - is finally free to explore her own ambition. Inspired by a true story, Chastain plays a real painter who set off West intent on meeting and painting Sitting Bull. She becomes entangled in the conflict between the Natives and an army officer who is intent on waging war with them. There are moments of levity in the story, but it's mostly a serious drama about a dark time in human history.
