The character of Annie Nations was inspired by my Great Aunt Arie Carpenter. The writers took names from around the area and haphazardly used them to fit. The accents, profanity, making fun of hard working mountain people in song, and stories of alcohol consumption were not appropriate. My Great Aunt taught Sunday School for 62 years. Her husband, Great Uncle Ulysses didn't drink nor cuss. The only correct thing was that Great Aunt Arie walked.
