This film was released in 1964, yet the same refrains about freedom, equality, dignity and human rights we still struggle to understand and apply today, some fifty years after this film was made is reason enough "Act of Reprisal" should be seen again by a new generation. Though in B&W the film presents lovely vistas and the story, which echoes Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" reflects the bard's timeless themes about race, truth, love, hate, freedom, innocence lost and bravery, among many others and is what makes this film really great. We want our hero and heroin to win, to overcome, and live their happily-ever-after but they die and the war continues...and yet, perhaps all is not lost if we take heed of their sacrifice and try to change our own world. A great film that has not received it's due. Watch it and you'll see what I mean.
