5/10
Featuring no dragons of any kind.

Those expecting a daft slice of Brucesploitation in which the main character uses super-powers to battle his enemies will be sorely disappointed: the title Super Dragon has absolutely nothing to do with its content. This film is, in fact, a traditional kung fu flick from Taiwan concerning a group of martial artists hired to escort a valuable consignment to its destination. A traitor in their midst has resulted in a series of robberies (which makes one wonder why people keep on hiring them), and the hunt is on to find out who it is. Also serving to complicate matters: a pair of thieves who team up with the escorts, and a young woman, The Invincible Spear (Polly Ling-Feng Shang-Kuan), who is looking for the man who murdered her father.

The plot for this one gets very convoluted at times, and for much of the film I struggled to follow what was happening and to whom. Fortunately, there is plenty of fighting involved, most of which is rather good, with plenty of weapon work and acrobatics; this surfeit of kung fu action helps to keep things reasonably entertaining even when you haven't the foggiest what is going on. It all leads to a climactic battle to the death (as these films usually do) in which the identity of the villain is finally revealed. And I still didn't have a clue who he was!

4.5/10, rounded up to 5 for the rousing music, which is up there with John Williams' best work.
