Buzzing with energy
30 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I was expecting this series to run out of steam by the time of HER FATAL WAYS 3 but nothing of it. Made a couple of years after the last two films, this one sees Carol Do Do Cheng and Alfred Cheung returning for a new, if familiar story. This time around their trip from the Chinese mainland to Hong Kong is via Taiwan, allowing for plenty more political humour, more extreme at China's expense this time around. They're on the trail of a Taiwanese assassin attempting to take out a visiting Chinese dignitary, but it's all really just an excuse for plenty of broad character comedy. Anthony Wong is a good replacement for Tony Leung and Waise Lee and the whole thing buzzes with vibrant energy.
