Funny, honest, unpretentious
23 January 2020
I caught this show by accident on cable. Talented cast. It takes a short time to appreciate the nature of Nora, a lost, self absorbed but sweet loser who has a certain unpretentious honesty. If you understand a little bit about Chinese culture it's a whole other level of hilarious. Nora is wandering her way through life, trying to find her way as an unfocused, adolescent twenty-something while other family members and friends are painful overachievers... but Nora has other friends in the same boat to help along the way. BD Wong is hilarious as her dead wood father and her nosy grandmother is very funny, reminding me of nagging mothers, sometimes providing advice we don't want to hear. I think the show is fresh and original and a nice change of pace.
