My wife and I have seen all episodes from the previous 5 seasons, and (as always) are enjoying the current season (6).
With almost every guest, there are some surprising discoveries, and some of the guests leave with their mouths open because of what Dr.Gates and his staff have uncovered. Despite many of the Black guests ancestry being hard to find because of the travesty of slavery (and the lack of records), some (such as Queen Latifah) find out that their ancestors were actually present before the formation of the United States.
My wife and I spent quite a bit of time a few years ago searching our 'roots.' We used a number of websites and visited a few libraries while on trips, and were able to put a decent family tree together for both of us, dating back to the late-1700's. Sure wish we had access to the resources that this show uses!
We don't always know who some of the celebrities are, and despite some of the 'sad moments' that are brought forth with some guests, it always ends on a happy note with the unrolling of the large printed family tree for each guest. I'm sure that this program will end at some point, but we certainly enjoy it while it's here!
