The Christmas Club (2019 TV Movie)
9/10
Playful
28 November 2019
I looked forward to this pairing since I have seen Cameron Mathison do some really good Hallmark movies and there is something about Elizabeth Mitchell in her softer roles.

This movie starts out with a great sequence between the two leads and some playful dialogue after they bump into each other before it launches into the common my-workplace-is-being-sold theme. The urgency is somewhat manufactured in the story, and how it progresses irritates me because the circumstances are so contrived, but it supplies a backdrop as we watch the developing relationship. This is great chemistry! The flirting and playful relationship continues through most of the movie.

While the background premise is a more than familiar theme, there are some interesting sequences. The way they meet is unique. I've never seen a puzzle like the one they briefly worked on about 1/3rd of the way through. The cocoa scene is done with a fresh twist. Meanwhile, there is a really interesting and touching sub-plot resulting from the Gertrude encounter going on also. I didn't enjoy the last third as much as what came before, but it is a Hallmark movie with the expected ending.
