Review of Seis Manos

Seis Manos (2019– )
4/10
A hodgepodge of great ideas that don't mesh.

Warning: Spoilers
It's a great idea, said the writers of this show. Anything that qualified for that statement got crammed in. Demons? Magic? Drug wars? Martial arts? Check check check. And hey let's slam it in Mexico and put a big ol' guy in the mix.

It all leads to some funny moments and interesting set pieces, but a lot of things never come to fruition. Why was their master making some weird kind of hooch by the ton? Why was the black guy racist against Mexicans? And what is with the bait and switch with the bad guys? Why was Sliencio's right eyebrow going white?

Too much was happening to cram all this into one tiny little season. The real issue I have is that it could have been so good. Draw out Silencio's descent into cruelty. Explore Chiu's excentricities. Learn more about the magic of the culture down south. Take a freaking minute, and deal with one bad guy, before introducing us to a whole new evil organization! Maybe have a bit of a hunt for the peach before it just appears, then instantly grants the big bad unlimited power. See how long this paragraph is? That's only a fraction of what they crammed into this first season. Oh, and maybe deal with the fact that you killed every adult in a tiny Mexican town before having magic money rain from the sky and our heroes riding off into the sunset, seemingly to never return.

Too much in one bite. That's the TLDR version of this review. It's enjoyable, but only goes so deep. Like a rock skipping across a pond before it inevitably sinks into the depths, lost forever in a sea of plot holes and tangled story lines.
