There's a difference between keeping your audience on their toes and ambling aimlessly. FTWD is nowhere near the first and drowning in the later. It's well and truly all over the show now after a promising couple of episodes at the start of this season. The show does have some ace cards with characters like John Dorie (who always delivers when on screen, even when dumped in the middle of a terrible script idea), but that's simply not enough to sustain us. There are plenty of positive possible story arcs, Logan's one was one of those, but it went absolutely nowhere and delivered nothing. The helicopter lady, also a story we'd all like to be watching instead of endless discussions in abandoned rooms that don't yield as much as the writer thinks they do. There's no overall story arc, no direction, we're embarrassed for some of these really quite good actors who are getting squandered on a big nothing (poor Matt Frewer). There was something there about talking directly to threats, and not painting them immediately as cartoon black and white villains, that was interesting, but it went absolutely nowhere, and got unceremoniously discarded to usher in - the cavalry, who are not looking to make any sense at all and come across as kinda stupid so far. Of all the stories they could be telling in this wide open landscape, they choose this?
