The Flesh and Bore Show, sadly
11 May 2019
A group of young actors rehearse in an old, creepy English seaside theatre but become the target of a crazed killer. I absolutely adore British horror from this period and am a fan of director Pete Walker, I so wanted to like this film but sadly I just couldn't. It has a cast of familiar faces: Mike Brooks is the voice of kids TV's Mr Benn. Robin Askwith will forever be known for the sex comedy "Confessions" movies. Patrick Barr was a prolific British actor. Candace Glendenning and Jenny Hanley appeared in a number of horror movies. Sadly the script is so dull and is often delivered in cardboard fashion. There is plenty of nudity, both male and female, but very little blood. The lighting on some scenes was too dark to see what was happening. I watched this on VHS and the print was poor at times, so this did not help. The film was pretty slow, it would have benefited from cutting some of the needless dialogue. The Flesh and Blood Show is a combination of exploitation, proto slasher and even giallo, worth seeing as an early Walker movie but it could have been much better.
