Neither savage nor magical, just pompous

Warning: Spoilers
"Dior: Sauvage - Legend of the Magic Hour" is indeed a fairly long title for this pretty short film as it runs for 12 minutes only. The writer and director is Clément Beauvais, certainly not the most prolific filmmaker, but then again it is debatable if this one here can even be called a film. I suppose so. There are moving pictures, so it is a motion picture, but I still struggle a bit with commercials here on imdb and how to perceive them. Then again this one has Johnny Depp in it, which is probably as well the main reason why it is listed on the world's biggest movie website. You hear more from Depp than you see from him as he narrates while we also see other actors/characters. But none of these are credited here on imdb, so you know who it is all about. This was released in summer last year (2018), so not very new nor old really, and despite the French beginning in the title, it is completely in English. You don't hear anybody else speaking other than Depp anyway. Well, there is no plot here, no coherent story whatsoever and you know nothing about the people you see, but this is not unusual for these commercials at times, especially those related to beauty rather than cars. I assume they included Depp (with a cowboy hat) very early on, so that people would stay intrigued and keep watching. It worked in my case. Somewhat. I like Depp more today than I liked him in the past, but this one here is not a revelation from anybody involved. It does feel a real lot like style over substance for me, there is no denying. The bleak western town won't change anything about that. It is better than most other commercials, maybe more artistic, but that does not mean it is a good film. The perfume ad gets a thumbs-down from me. Not recommended.
