AWESOME Film from a bygone era!!
15 January 2019
Loved this movie!!! Indie films are often hamstrung by poor production value that makes the film look cheap but here the low budget aspect is part of it's appeal creating a very fun style that doesn't take itself too seriously and seem more like a creative choice by the director than a production that just didn't have enough dough to make a real film. Comedies are even harder to pull off in the indie world and here again the film does not disappoint. My girlfriend and I had several good belly laughs throughout the film and just as many uncomfortable moments as the film also delivers some serious knowledge bombs about dating in our modern world. Though crass and sometimes very silly (in a very good way) the film deals with some very heavy material that makes one reflect upon their own relationships. The script is very well written, the narrative strong, and the performances were solid. Kudos to the team that made this film with it's completely irreverent and smart dialogue that is not concerned with dealing with uncomfortable truths about the sexes and not concerned about offending. This film is a throwback to the bygone days where comedies were allowed to be funny. Love a La Carte was made at the tail end of that bygone era way back in 2014. Kudos to the director for going where you're not supposed to go anymore!
