7/10
Pretty good TV movie about a troubled romance during the thunderous period of Elizabeth I kingdom
7 January 2019
Based on one of the most essential novels written by Miguel de Cervantes, this story shows the life of one young Spanish girl by the name of Isabel . La Española Inglesa deals with the kidnap of an attractive girl , Isabela, during a violent attack on the Southern city of Cádiz (1596) , carried out by the English commanded by Count of Essex and , subsequently , the cruel inprisonment of Ricaredo by the Turks . The novella and the film is a story about geographic repatriation , religion and a sensitive love story . The story begins with an act of rebelliousness proceeded by Clotaldo (José Maria Blanco) , father de Ricaredo (Carles Francino) , who takes the girl Isabel to London . By the time Isabella is a gorgeous 7-years-old little girl . Clotaldo y and his family : wife Catalina (Yolanda Arestegui) and son Ricardo (Carles Francino) are secret Catholic people who live at a Protestant England . Later on, Isabel (Macarena Garcia) would live in London with the family that kidnapped her . Isabel is considered a daugher-alike , becoming into a really wonderful and polite young . Isabel learns the English customs , but she often uses the Spanish habits ; while she starts to fall in love with their son Richard. Then , when the proud Queen Elizabeth I (Lola Herrera) to be aware about Isabel, she meets face to face the family .

This is a good costume-designing , a Spanish historic-drama and Macarena García as Isabel , and Carles Francino as Ricardo are well cast in the title roles . They are splendidly recreated turmoil , loves , and fight power of its time between the Muslim Turks and the christendom , including a bloody battle at the beginning , during The Capture of Cadiz, Spain (1596). As well as the troublesome days of the British and Spanish Empire and machinations surrounding , but it especially concerns a twisted and tumultuous love story .This costumer/melodrama recreates faithfully the historical facts , as several centuries separate us from the events are to narrate , it is really important to highlight the huge significance that these Brit/Spaniard Kingdoms had back then , as the shadows still hide from the public those great historic moments , and the significance of such deeds . The picture contributes to historical , artistic and cultural memory of an era , with a look back to the past , offering us an engaging adaptation based on this fundamental novel . It's magnificent and correctly captured by marvelous sets , splendid production design and glamorous gowns . This elaborate costumer drama packs outstanding performances from a great casting . Based on the homonymous novel by Miguel de Cervantes, the film is finely narrated by a role -Cervantes himself - who tells the tale of Isabel and Ricaredo. Miguel de Cervantes published the original "La española inglesa" as one of the twelve novels compiled as a series called "Exemplary novels". They were written between 1590 and 1612 and later printed in 1613 by Juan de la Cuesta in Madrid . Main cast is frankly fine , Macarena Garcia is good as the charming young whose life changes completely when she's somehow kidnapped by the English ; she is appropriately accompanied by Carles Francine as the brave and beloved Ricardo . Support cast is pretty good , such as Lola Herrera as an upright Queen of England Elizabeth I , Ana Wagener as Major Steward ,Yolanda Arestegui , Jose Maria Blanco , Bernabé Fernández and Michel Rellán as Cervantes himself , though his character doesn't appear in the novella .

La española inglesa was well directed Marco Castillo, with a nice screenplay by Pilar Nadal, Felipe Mellizo y Guillermo Cisneros. This interesting historical drama whose title non-official translation: "The English Spaniard/Spanish woman" contains a brilliant cinematography that adds color to the atmosphere by Gonzalo Flórez who formerly photographed notorious series. And an atmospheric and evocative musical score by Daniel Sánchez de la Hera , though composed by synthesizer . The motion picture was elegant and brilliantly directed by Marco A. Castillo . He is a professional artisan who has directed various episodes from famous TV series , such as : El Internado , Suárez y Mariscal, caso cerrado , Cafeteria Manhattan , El ministerio del tiempo , Hospital Valle Norte , SMS and Aguila Roja . Rating . 7/10 . Better than average
