Warning: Spoilers
'Street Fighter II - The World Warrior' was the start of something very big for Nintendo back in the '90's. The first 'Street Fighter' game came out in 1987, featuring prominently in arcades, as well as being ported to many of the most popular gaming systems of that time such as the Commodore 64, the Atari ST and the ZX Spectrum the following year. It was popular enough with gamers to be awarded a sequel three years later, which is what this was. It was then that 'Street Fighter' really hit the nail.

The game features a total of twelve characters, of which eight are playable. The eight playable characters are Japanese martial artist Ryu, his American rival and training partner Ken ( both of whom are the only characters from the first game to re-appear ), Japanese sumo wrestler E. Honda ( my favourite character ) American air force operative Guile ( who is seeking to avenge the death of his best friend Charlie ), horrifically mutated Brazilian Blanka, Chinese martial artist Chun-Li ( who is seeking revenge for the murder of her father ), Indian fire eater and yoga master Dhalsim and pro wrestler Zangief who hails from the U.S.S.R.

The four non-playable boss characters include belligerent American boxer Balrog, narcissistic Spanish bullfighter Vega, Muay Thai kickboxer Sagat ( who is seeking revenge against Ryu for his scarring of him in a previous battle ).and psychopathic M. Bison who is head of the criminal organization named Shadaloo and who happens to be the game's main boss. Defeat him to become the ultimate 'Street Fighter' champion.

Released exclusively for the SNES, 'The World Warrior' is an excellent vehicle for the much loved 'Street Fighter II' franchise which was spun off a total of three times - 'Turbo' ( released for SNES and which featured all of the previously unplayable characters as playable ) 'Special Championship Edition' ( similar to 'Turbo' and released only for Sega Mega Drive ) and 'The New Challengers' ( released for both the Sega Mega Drive and the SNES and which featured some new characters ). A version for the Sega Master System was released in 1997 but only in Brazil. An updated Anniversary edition was also later released for the PS2.

To finish off, 'Street Fighter II - The World Warrior' is a timeless classic which still continues to enthrall gamers today.
