A Bug's Love
2 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
"It's Tough to Be a Bug" is a 9-minute animated short film that was used for a theme park attraction for quite a while and this one here is from 1998 already, so almost 20 years old. It was written by Kevin Rafferty, who worked on other theme park attraction videos too, and directed by Chris Bailey, who received an Oscar nomination shortly before for bringing Mickey back. But back to this one here: It is obviously closely connected to the famous movie "A Bug's Life" and brings back the central character to explain to audiences why bugs/insects do not suck altogether. Think of it the next time a buzzing fly keeps annoying you. The honey reference about bees is just one example in here. So yes, bugs do indeed have an image problem, even 2 decades after "A Bug's Life", but if this fairly fun, entertaining and mildly informative film changed something, then I am all for it. You do not need to be a fan of the full feature film it is connected with to have a decent watch here. I give it a thumbs-up overall.
