Teens decide to go to the woods and make it on their own.

I came across this movie on Netflix streaming. It enjoyed it because it reminds me of certain parts of my life as a teenager. I never thought about running off and being independent as a 15-yr-old but my friends and I basically went around and did all kinds of things with no parental involvement.

It is a simple story, set in Ohio, two teenage boys, for different reasons, are getting more and more frustrated with the involvements of their parents. It is the end of the school session, summer break is upon them. So one of them, Joe, hatches a plan, the other goes along with him, they will go into the woods to a secluded location, build a shelter, and live off the land. Collect herbs and berries, hunt wildlife, go fishing, who needs parents and a conventional home anyhow?

Nick Robinson is Joe and Gabriel Basso is his good friend Patrick. Another boy, who isn't having parental issues, Moises Arias as Biaggio, decides to join them. Everything starts off well but soon the boys find out it isn't so easy to live off the land. Favorite exchange: "Are there any bears in these woods? Hope so, a bear would feed us for a month!"

Meanwhile the parents become worried and enlist the help of local authorities to find the boys, having no idea why they disappeared. Then friends show up, one is cute Erin Moriarty as cute Kelly. Joe is sweet on her and hopes they can hit it off but instead she pays attention to Patrick, naturally causing friction in the friendship.

In a sense the movie is predictable, we just know it can't last, we know the boys will realize some things about life, the parents will realize some things about parenting teenagers. But it overall is a nicely enjoyable small movie.
