Great Comedy That Makes You Think and Sticks With You
22 April 2017
For me, one of the signs of a great movie is when it really sticks with you, and you keep thinking about it for days after you've seen it--"Is That a Gun in Your Pocket?" is one of those films. At first glance, you think you're watching a broad sex comedy. But like the classic sitcoms of the 70s (All in the Family, Maude, M*A*S*H), this film tackles complex and controversial topics such as gun control and the power struggles inherent in love relationships in a deftly comedic and thought-provoking manner. If you're just in the mood for an exceptionally funny film, with hysterical and lovable characters, this is it. If you want a film that's going to stimulate your mind, and interesting conversation and debate, this is it as well. This movie just keeps sneaking up on you as it delivers "zinger" after "zinger," through great characters, and extremely skilled writing and direction. The dialogue alone is worth the investment. Ironically, even with its "off color" language, sexually charged themes and "R" rating, at its core, this is a sweet family film. In the end, "Is That a Gun in Your Pocket?" is one of the most endearing, inspirational, funny, "feel good" films I've seen in years.
