Eve (IV) (2008)
4/10
Okay for a first film, not enough otherwise

Warning: Spoilers
"Eve" is a 20-minute (with credits) live action short film from 2008, so this one will soon have its 10 anniversary. It was written and directed by Natalie Portman, who was in her mid-20s at that point. Her name attached to the project is probably also the main reason why this little movie is still somewhat famous. Or it could also be the three big names in the cast and you have to say on a positive note that young Olivia Thirlby holds her own very well next to these 2 acting legends in here. I am a bit surprised she did not make it bigger in the last years. For both the late Lauren Bacall as well as the late Ben Gazzara, it is one of their final career efforts, though not very final. I got curious about this movie here as Portman directed her first full feature film recently (and starred in it), so I wanted to take a look at what other stuff she has done behind the camera. I would say that this work here is solid for a rookie filmmaker. Her direction is sometimes pretty good, but I just never felt the script good enough to do justice to the talent of the three actors involved in the center of it all. Such a shame, this definitely could have been much better. I have not made up my mind yet if I like the soundtracks. All in all, this was a pretty mediocre watch and nothing about it really stands out to let me recommend checking it out. Watch something else instead.
