Generic and empty action stuff
27 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
"MacGyver and the new Citan" is a 3-part mini-series from 2012, so it will have its 5th anniversary next year. The title already gives away that actor Richard Dean Anderson reprises his career-defining role as MacGyver (Marge Simpson's sisters will be happy). The entire thing only runs for slightly over 10 minutes, which means that one episode is 3.5 minutes long and you can watch it in one sitting easily. The title already states that it is a Mercedes-Benz promo movie, but I personally felt the car aspect was there, but hardly crucial in this film. This would have been an actually good thing if the story or acting had been convincing. Especially the former is underwhelming. It is as generic as it gets for an action movie. MacGyver is working in a calmer environment now, we see him and his daughter and he has no clue about the new technologies, Internet etc. But of course, the action comes pretty quickly. But the audience's interest does not. I don't think this mini-series has an appealing aspect really and it's probably only worth checking out (if at all) for the very biggest MacGyver fans. From me, it gets a major thumbs-down.
