The plot synopsis for this episode says that Barney makes a stunning discovery as to the identity of his father. Of course, this is in no way a plot point of the episode. Rather, it is just a cliffhanger that occurs after a series of lame and boring interactions between Robin and Barney.
We do get a sense of Lily and Marshall's relationship at a potentially risky zone, as Marshall is further corrupted by the power of GNB. This plot reminds me of Season 5 of Joss Whedon's "Angel", where our group of heroes move into Wolfram & Hart. This is perhaps a point of influence, but everything to do with the occupations and complications of all characters is really beginning to feel flat.
At just the standard 22 minutes, this episode was a chore to sit through. Downright unfunny, depressing (although some of it was intentional) and awkwardly slow, "How I Met Your Mother" really no longer is about 'The Mother' - who knows when it will be
