8 TO 4 has nothing in common with the thousands of so-called parodies cranked out today - it is a successful stand-alone comedy about the familiar tribulations of working for creepy bosses. I enjoyed if more than the famous hit movie 9 TO 5 on the subject.
Annette Haven is perfect as the central character, a hard-working secretary who has to put up with stereotypical horrible bosses Herschel Savage and Aunt Peg/Juliet Anderson. Only fault is that she is not accorded the amount of explicit sex footage her fans expect.
Lisa De Leeuw is much better than Dolly Parton, equipped with Southern accent and those huge natural breasts as the perennially late for work employee. Rounding out the star triumvirate is ditzy Loni Sanders, quite fun in an extended copy room sex scene threesome (with Jesse Adams and Chelsea Manchester).
En route to a satisfying, farcical conclusion wherein both Savage and Anderson receive their comeuppance, the film's highlight is a classic example of Jazz Porn, as Lisa and Loni have a lesbian session in a sauna, accompanied by fabulous ballads from his impulse! label LPs by John Coltrane. When they started to play I felt this was sacrilege, but the clearly unauthorized use of these recordings nevertheless magnifies the eroticism of this scene.
Extremely well-produced by the Lewis team, this is a good example of the standard level of quality achieved by the industry during the Porno Chic movie era, soon to plummet to the low video levels we've been stuck with ever since.
